Dear Sugar Land Academy Parents and Guardians,

We are in dire need of your support!  We feel the necessity for all PARENTS/GUARDIANS (both if applicable) to join us on campus on Thursday, March 3, 2022 as we teach you ways to increase student success while addressing the learning gaps that are present as a result of the pandemic and other factors. Promotion versus Retention is in question here! I urge you to make time from your overly busy day to attend this 1 hour session with me as I guide and coach you in supporting your student while I learn what else my team and I can do to support your student. Despite our efforts as a school, our number of “At Risk” students is alarming this academic year unlike any past years and therefore I call for this high priority and urgent meeting. I hope you will make time to partner with me in your child’s education.

Please RSVP using the following link by February 28, 2022. You may select either the AM Session (8:15 AM – 9:30 AM) or the PM session (4:00 PM – 5:00 PM).

I look forward to seeing you on Thursday, March 3, 2022!

Each school year, thousands of families submit their application to become a part of Harmony Public Schools.

Here’s how we select applicants for enrollment each year to make sure each applicant has an equal opportunity to become our next high-achieving Harmony scholar.

Each January, we ask current families to let us know if they’ll be coming back to Harmony next year. This is called “Re-Enrollment.”

Based on the number of students returning next year and the number of classes in each grade level, we determine how many open spots we will have for new students.

Meanwhile, new families are submitting their applications during our annual Open Enrollment season, which runs from November 1 through February 10 each year.

After February 10, if the number of new applicants is greater than the number of available spots we have, Harmony holds a “blind lottery” to make sure all applicants have a fair opportunity to be seated.

Families of students selected for enrollment are notified. Those not selected are put on a “waitlist” and contacted as soon as a spot opens up.

… and that’s it!

Here are some answers to our applicants’ most frequently asked questions.

Not always, but often.

Whether a lottery is needed is determined by the number of spots available at each grade level and the number of eligible applicants interested in them.

Most importantly, we need you to officially accept the spot (a link will be provided on the acceptance letter). Then, between now and next fall, you’ll need to officially register your child and provide a few documents verifying their identity and home address.

After that, we’ll see you on the first day of school!

(Note: If you were accepted by more than one campus, please register at your preferred campus and decline the invitation of any others. This will allow us to offer those spots to another prospective Harmony family.)

Absolutely – so don’t give up hope! Students initially placed on a waitlist are given the opportunity to enroll all the time at Harmony, often for one of the following reasons:

  • A student who was initially selected in the lottery didn’t completion registration by the deadline.
  • A student who was initially selected in the lottery moved away.
  • A student was selected by two schools in the lottery, but of course could only register at one.
  • We added an an extra class at the grade level for which you applied.
  • One of our nearby campuses had an opening,
and reached out to see if you were interested in attending there.

Dear parents of Emergent Bilingual Students (including parent denials)

Emergent Bilingual Students in grades K-12, including parent denials, are required to be assessed through the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS). The Texas Education Agency developed TELPAS to meet state and federal testing requirements for assessing the English language proficiency of Emergent Bilingual Students in four language domains: listening, speaking, reading and writing. TELPAS assesses the Texas English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS), which are part of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

The assessment components for grades K–1 and 2–12 differ in the following ways:

• Grades K–1: Holistically rated listening, speaking, reading, and writing assessments based on ongoing classroom observations and student interactions.

• Grades 2–12: Online reading and listening and speaking tests and holistically rated student writing collections

For these assessments, teachers are trained to use proficiency level descriptors to determine the English language proficiency levels of students.

The state testing calendar for TELPAS is February 7, 2022 through April 1, 2022. Our school is going to assess students between February 7, 2022 and March 4 , 2022. If a student is absent on the day of testing, a make-up test will be administered before March 11, 2022. We ask that you refrain any activities that might cause your student(s) to be absent from school during this time.

Additional information about TELPAS can be found at the following website:

If you would like to practice with your student, at home, please go to : to access the online practice tests.
